Gene Amondson Artist in Oils

Born in Morton, Washington, Alaskan Artist Gene Amondson spent his early years in a logging camp near Mount Rainier with summers spent in Alaskan logging camps and villages which provided inspiration for his oil paintings of Alaskan landscapes. Amondson began oil painting while in college in Oregon and continued to study and teach art while earning his Master's degree in Kentucky.

Amondson studied under Sergei Bongart and Fred Oldfield which inspired his use of rich colors in his oil paintings. Rolf Lindberg, Sweden's foremost "Troll Artist," gave Gene an outlet for his sense of humor in his whimsical watercolors and his Life Sized Wood Carvings . Alaska's Gallery of the North Features Gene Amondson's Oil Paintings

Gallery of the North, located in Juneu, Alaska, is featuring Gene Amondson's oil paintings to replace those of Scott McDaniel (a famous Alaskan Artist). Alaskans have learned that prints do not hold their value and they are now returning to oil paintings by old timers like Amondson that first arived in Southeast Alaska to work in the woods 47 years ago this summer as a sophomore in college (see image on the right).
